Queen's Drive Primary School are very proud in being awarded the PQSM Gilt Award for 2021-2024. This award demonstrates the schools' vision and enthusiasm for Science in and out of school. The subject leaders worked tirelessly to achieve this high accolade.

The children at Queen's Drive thoroughly enjoy their Science lessons and take with them a life long passion for Science.

At Queen’s Drive, we foster children's inquisitiveness and allow them to explore their thoughts and ideas through outdoor learning, observations, practical investigations and thorough research. Our belief is that all children are entitled to a broad, challenging and exciting science education which allows all children to leave Queen’s Drive as confident and knowledge rich scientists. Science at Queen’s Drive allows pupils to revisit knowledge from previous Science units helping them progressively to build on their developing Science knowledge and deepening their understanding of the world around them. Vocabulary is present in every lesson with children able to explain their findings using scientific language. Science starts at the heart of EYFS and is under 'Understanding the World' strand. Children are provided with a variety of non-fiction texts across the curriculum and linked fiction texts to enhance their learning in Science.

Our aims in teaching science include the following:

Preparing our children for life in an increasingly scientific and technological world.

Fostering concern about, and active care for, our environment.

Helping our children acquire a growing understanding of scientific ideas.

Helping develop and extend our children’s scientific concept of their world.

Developing our children’s understanding of the international and collaborative nature.
