PSHE and RSE
Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) is central to life at Queen’s Drive Primary School. It supports our pupils in becoming healthy, independent and responsible members of society. We nurture children’s self-worth and encourage them to play a positive role within school and the wider community.
We believe that preparing children for the future requires more than academic success. Our PSHE curriculum equips pupils with the essential knowledge, skills and attributes needed to become informed, resilient and independent citizens.
Our curriculum is based on the Kapow scheme of work and is carefully sequenced to ensure progressive development across five key strands:
· Families and Relationships
· Health and Wellbeing
· Safety and the Changing Body
· Citizenship
· Economic Wellbeing
We create a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where all pupils feel confident to ask questions and share their views. Children can raise sensitive or personal questions privately or anonymously, ensuring every voice is heard.
Oracy is a fundamental element of our PSHE curriculum. We place a strong emphasis on developing pupils’ speaking and listening skills through purposeful discussion. Key vocabulary is explicitly taught and modelled, and structured opportunities are planned to enable all learners to articulate their thoughts clearly, respectfully and with confidence.
Our PSHE curriculum is enriched with meaningful cultural opportunities, enabling pupils to explore diversity, develop empathy, and deepen their understanding of the world around them. This knowledge is essential in preparing pupils to become respectful, active citizens who contribute positively to society.
