History
This information page contains various documentation relating to the teaching of History at Queen’s Drive Primary School.
At Queen’s Drive, we aim to provide children with a high-quality history education that will allow children to gain a coherent understanding of Britain’s past and the past of the wider world along side developing their skills as historians. Our broad curriculum has been designed to bring real meaning to the children of our school. It reflects the rich cultural diversity that we have here within our Queen’s Drive “family”, allowing children to see the relevance and importance of history and how it has impacted them and their families. Our curriculum is based on a foundation of chronology in which children build their knowledge of present day, past and future in EYFS and KS1. This develops into a more thorough understanding of where key events and periods of history fit into an historical framework in KS2. Teaching of history at Queen’s Drive maximises children’s prior learning and builds future learning encouraging children to make links across time periods and historical themes.
Our teaching of history allows children to gain the key knowledge and skills that will help them to understand how historical events have shaped the modern world, Britain and our local community. We want our children to become critical thinkers who are able to use their knowledge that has been taught in order to build their own opinions and interpretations. History at our school is enjoyable for children and we aim to bring a buzz of excitement into lessons which is reflected in the discussions in class and in the work that children produce. Children have hands-on learning experiences through the use of theme days, the studying of artefacts and the interpretation and evaluation of sources.
