Welcome to Summer 2: Seaside Adventures! ☀️🏖️
Welcome back, everyone! We hope you all had a fantastic, sun-filled half-term break. We cannot believe we are entering our very final half-term of the academic year. The children have grown so much, and we are ready to make this final term absolutely unforgettable!
Our theme for the next few weeks is Seaside Adventures, and we have an incredible line-up of "fun in the sun" activities planned both indoors and out.
📚 Our Key Storybooks
We will be diving into our theme through some absolutely wonderful, beautifully illustrated books. These stories will inspire our writing, our discussions, and our play:
-
"Someone Swallowed Stanley" by Sarah Roberts – A moving story about a plastic bag in the ocean, which will help us explore sea pollution and how we can protect sea life.
-
"The Storm Whale" by Benji Davies – A heartwarming tale of friendship and a little whale washed ashore after a storm.
-
"The Sea Saw" by Tom Percival – A beautiful story of a lost teddy bear and the magic of the ocean.
-
"The Pirates Next Door" by Jonny Duddle – A brilliant, laugh-out-loud story that will spark our exciting pirate adventures!
We will also be exploring a huge array of other sea-themed stories, non-fiction texts, and poems along the way.
🌊 What's Happening in Provision?
We will be diving deep into our seas and oceans to find out all about the amazing variety of sea creatures that live beneath the waves. We will be learning all about the seaside, sandy beaches, and how we can look after our planet.
Here is a sneak peek at some of the exciting things waiting for the children in our classroom:
-
Pirate Adventures & Treasure Hunts: Ahoy, mateys! We will be going on high-seas adventures, using maps to find hidden treasure and burying our own secret bounty in the sand.
-
The Creative Area (Junk Modelling & Art): We will be diving into our recycling bins to engineer and create our very own 3D sea creatures. We are also turning into fine artists as we study the technique of Pointillism by Georges Seurat—learning how to create beautiful seascape paintings using lots of tiny dots of colour!
-
Funky Fingers (Sand & Shells): The children will be strengthening their fine motor skills by creating intricate seashell patterns in the sand.
-
The Playdoh Station: Using our imaginations to sculpt and mold unique, colorful deep-sea creatures.
-
The Construction Zone: Pulling on our engineering hats to build giant submarines to help us explore the deep ocean floor.
🌳 Forest School & Specialist Provision
Alongside our seaside theme, our weekly adventures continue!
-
Forest School: We will be heading out into nature to explore the changing summer season, hunt for mini-beasts, and enjoy outdoor teamwork.
-
Music with Mrs. Kearvall: We are so excited to continue our wonderful music sessions, exploring summer rhythms, sea shanties, and keeping the beat!
It is going to be a busy, joyful, and action-packed final term. Keep an eye on our page for regular updates and photos of our adventures!
Let’s make it a brilliant Summer 2!
