Classes 7 and 8 are the first classes of the juniors.
Learning through fun plays a significant part of year 3 life. Practical and Active learning, children lead topic work, outdoor learning and extra-curricular experiences are to name a few of the wonderful and exciting things we do.
Throughout the year we guide the children to become more self-reliant and independent. We have high expectations of the children’s work and behaviour, and it is important that the children realise and understand this. This will enable them to feel proud of their work and their achievements, knowing that they have done their very best at all times.
Year 3 have a number of visits that enhance the work that we do in the classroom and we organise workshops in school to reinforce curriculum topics, such as Stone Age theme days and involvement in science weeks and writing days.
We regard homework as a very important link between home and school. The work set will reinforce what we have been covering in class.
Project work is encouraged, to allow the children to explore the topics and focuses. We place a great emphasis on reading in year 3 and feel it is very important that the children read every night. Reading diary books should be signed by parents to indicate the page reached each evening and along with the reading book and should be brought into school every day.
PE kit and school uniform should be named and in school on the first day of every term ready for a kit check. During the year each class have 6 weeks of swimming lesson at the local leisure centre.
Each half term, you will receive a copy of the Year 3 curriculum letter which details all the wonderful and exciting topics that we cover in that term.
