PLANTS! PLANTS! PLANTS!

This term Year 2 are learning all about plant growth!

Class 5 have carried out a comparative test, placing seeds in different environments.  

Pot 1 - normal conditions 

Pot 2 - no light (put in classroom cupboard)

Pot 3 - no water

Pot 4 - no warmth (put in fridge)

We found out that plants only need water and warmth to germinate!  We looked at each pot carefully and described what we could see:

Pot 1- green leaves, green stem, growth

Pot 2 - white stem, yellow leaves, growth

Pot 3 - small shoot appeared

Pot 4 - no growth 

We discussed how the pot that had not had water had slightly grown due to the water in the soil when it was planted. 

We also planted our own seeds in 'normal conditions' and have been watching them grow.  We have kept a plant diary over the last few weeks, and been measuring them and counting how many leaves have appeared.  We also had a plant rota and we have been taking turns to water the plants.  

We have enjoyed looking after our plants and finding out what helps them grow!
