Class 13, 14 and 15 complete the line-up of classes at Queen’s Drive. Their year is incredibly important as they strive to attain their very best in preparation for the next stage in their academic career.
Our Year 6 pupils learn through an exciting topic based approach – educational visits, visitors into school and our locality are used to engage our pupils and we encourage them to ask questions, building our units of work around their enquiries. We are proud that our final year in school is not SATs results driven.
Our children have daily English and Maths lessons and many opportunities to practice their key skills but we also provide many creative opportunities; taking part in outdoor experiences such as ‘Survival Day’ and Kingswood, visiting the theatre, museums and our end of year production is always a dramatic, musical extravaganza!
The high expectations we have throughout school, remain a key feature of Year 6. We expect pupils to drive their own learning, demonstrating independence and resilience. Homework is given on a weekly basis and we expect pupils to complete the tasks given promptly, as we prepare them for their transition to secondary school. This work reinforces lessons covered in class or takes the form of a project when we are to begin a new theme unit.
Our pupils have PE weekly and should have named indoor and outdoor kit on hand at all times. We regularly invite coaches into school and provide a vast range of extra-curricular activities, enabling our pupils to excel at sport.
Should you have any questions or queries, please get in touch and we’ll be very happy to meet with you at a mutually convenient time.
